Vics manager Justin Flowers sets his faith in youth and experience for his Hellenic Division One campaign to start on Saturday 10th August.

After a longer than usual gap between seasons, everyone involved in football is ready to get back to usual habits.

Manager Justin Flowers and his management team have been working hard throughout preseason to assemble a squad worthy of challenging towards the top of the table.

With the first league game just around the corner, here is a preview of the final Vics squad for the upcoming season.

Goalkeepers:
ARCHIE WALSH
SHAUN MITCHELL
MACCA BROWN

Manager’s comments:
‘It had been a long preseason in terms of trying to find the right keeper for us.
But with Archie and Shaun returning Uni I feel we finally have a great solution.

Macca has also been very impressive when stepping up from our development squad and is more than capable of stepping in for us when needed.’

Fullbacks:
ANDY BAKER
BEN PATEY
KYLE WITT
LUKE CURTIS

Manager’s comments:
‘This is an area I think we have really improved from last season.

Luke was in great from last season so to retain his services was very important because of the energy and quality on the ball he provides.

Ben moved from midfield to fullback during last season and has just got better and better the more the has played the role.

Bakes and Kyle were both at the club last season but were unable to play any games due to serious injuries. Having both of them now available is like adding two new signings and they are both exceptional players. Great lads off the pitch as well which is an added bonus.’

Centre Backs:
ZAC COSTELLO
DAVID HARE
PAUL CARSON

Manager’s comments:
‘Centre back was probably our strongest area last season. We kept a lot of clean sheets and the performances from these 3 players were high quality throughout the season.
It was vital that I could keep all 3 this season.

Zac committing to another season is great news as he is such a valuable and calming figure throughout the team. His experience is so vital to our side.

Haro has been a wanted man yet again this summer and some other local teams tried everything to sign him. So for him to commit to us again is a great sign of what we are trying to achieve here.

Carse is like Benjamin Button, seems to be getting younger each season even though he will be 40 this season. But as they say age is just a number and that certainly applies here. His dedication and will to be at the top of his game is great to see and he’s a such a positive influence on the rest of the team, especially the youngsters.

We also have Nick and Browner who can play centre back so I am so happy with the options we have at the back this season.’

Central Midfielders:
ANT BROWN
NICK CHANDLER
LEWIS MORRISSEY
JACK HOBSON-MCVEIGH

Manager’s comments:
‘This is another area in which I was very keen to improve on.

I feel adding Browner and Nick in this area will give us a really strong competitive edge which we were lacking in midfield at times last season. They both have such good energy and attitude to win. I think they will both be vital for us this season if we want to do well. Both had decent options of other clubs but they both committed to the Vics which was great news for us.

Lewis adds a different dimension and has great awareness on the ball. He is another year older and I believe he can step up to become a vital member of our squad this season.

Jack is an exceptional talent. His ability is unquestionable and this is going to be a great season for him. He was very unlucky with injuries last season and that meant we didn’t see the best of him but on his day he is probably the best player in the league so I can’t wait to see what magic moments he comes up with throughout the season.’

Attackers:
JAMIE PACKER
MATT FUSCO
ASH ALCHIN
OLLY CROSBY-CLARKE
ALFIE PRESLEY
JOE TRANTER
SAM PARKER

Manager’s comments:
‘This was another area we really needed to improve over preseason. I don’t think we had enough fire power in forward areas to be where we wanted to be as a team. We needed additional options and I was very keen to get the right players in and I couldn’t be happier with who we added.
Not only that but to keep the players who performed well last season was also vital.

Packer is everyones favourite player I think. Top bloke and gives us everything for every minute he’s on the pitch. When you add his desire to win with the huge goal threat he is I think he is a great player and we are lucky to have him.

Fusco was a player I targeted all summer. I know it was a tough decision for him to leave Malvern but once he came and played for us it seemed to be great match. His level of intelligence on the pitch is clear for everyone to see. He has the perfect blend of hard work and desire to win mixed with pure class with everything he does in the final third. He is such a goal threat and I think he will create and score a lot of goals from midfield this season. Everyone at the club seems over the moon that he had signed.

Ash had offers from other clubs which was distracting for both of us at the start of preseason but when he was happy to commit to us we were delighted to resign him for the season. He has come back to us with such a positive attitude. His talent is there for wveryto see. He is going to be a huge player for the Vics this season. I can’t wait to see how he fits in with the other attacking talents we now have at the club.

Olly has been on my radar for over a year since I watched him play for Chippenham Under 18’s. He was always the best player on the pitch and he has taken that form into preseason for us. His technical qualities on the ball are fantastic and he is going to be a huge player for us as the season develops. He had offers from the league above so I am delighted I was able to convince him to sign for us. He is a special talent for sure.

Alfie was another target I wanted from the start of the summer. I’ve wanted to sign him for over 3 years now so I’m delighted he has committed to us. He has been outstanding in every friendly and is going to be vital to our team. Everything about his game seems faultless at the moment and I really believe he can win us a lot of games with the qualities he has. I think everyone in the team will play better because of Alfie and I am buzzing to see what he will achieve with us this season.

Tranter has been like a new signing as well. He has stepped up from the development side and has been one of our top performers during preseason. His pace, attitude, goal threat and the way he pressures opponents make him so dangerous and he’ll be a huge asset to our squad this season.

Parker is always such an important player to our team. On the pitch he has such presence and it hugely important to how we want to play. Off the pitch he is also great, especially with the youngsters. He has come back to preseason looking sharp and up for it and he will be vital to us this season.’

‘Overall I couldn’t be happier with the squad we have put together this summer and I really think we can challenge this season. I think we can play some exciting football to help entertain the supporters. I look forward to getting a full season under our belt at this great club.’
